Women's Soccer on a Roll, Pereira Honored
The University of Hartford women's soccer team has broken into the weekly rankings, currently ninth in the NSCAA/Continental Tier NCAA Division I Northeast Region Poll. The Hawks are also listed among Top Drawer Soccer's College Soccer Top-64 teams projected to make the NCAA Big Dance.
Senior Amelia Pereira added to her collection of honors as she has been named the ECAC Women's Soccer Division I Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 6. Pereira led the Hawks to a pair of league shutouts last week, earning America East Player of the Week accolades.
Pereira was a part of all five of Hartford's goals last week en route to a 3-0 shutout at Maine and a 2-0 home shutout of Albany. Overall she finished with three goals scored and two assists.
For the season, Pereira leads the team and the America East with 12 goals scored, six assists and 30 points. She also has five game-winning goals to her credit. In addition to leading the league and the team, Pereira is ninth in the nation in points per game, 12th in goals per game and 59th in assists per game. She is also eighth in the nation in total goals, seventh in total points and fourth in game-winning scores.
Sidney Spremullo was named America East Rookie of the Week, registering a goal and two assists during the week, including scoring the game-winning marker against Maine and assisting on Pereira's match decider versus Albany.
