Students in Ghana: Sustainable Studio study ecology, craft techniques, African culture, contemporary art and current eco-design over a three-week Winterterm trip to Ghana, West Africa. Upon their return they create an independent project and artist's book. The course provides a rare opportunity to experience West African culture through vibrant community relationships.
Travel and Art: Sicily has been offered at the Hartford Art School each spring since 2002. Students learn the art of visual research, reference gathering and travel sketching while exploring the Italian island of Sicily during the spring break period. Upon their return, students create an independent body of work in response to their travel experience.
Silpe Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. For more information visit www.silpegallery.org.
