Haghighat and Matacin Quoted in Article on Women’s Beauty and Body Image
Donna Haghighat, grants and programs manager for the Women's Education and Leadership Fund (WELFund), and Mala Matacin, associate professor of psychology and founder of Women for Change, were interviewed and quoted in a recent Hartford Courant article about the new initiative, “CT Girlcott.”
Girlcott is a movement of women willing to go makeup-free for the month of March (Women's History Month) 2013. All the money they would have spent on cosmetics for the month will be given to organizations benefitting women and girls in Hartford and globally. There will be many events leading up to March, including monthly "make-up sex" discussions, which allow women to come together to talk about the relationship between makeup, body image, conceptions of beauty, self-esteem, and health implications.
