Former Poet Laureate Marilyn Nelson to Read on Campus
Marilyn Nelson, former Poet Laureate of the State of Connecticut, will read from her poems on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 12:15 p.m., in Auerbach Auditorium (Hillyer Hall).
This event, part of the Cardin Reading Series, is free and open to the public. Nelson's reading will be followed by a Q&A and a book signing.
Nelson is the author of many books of poems, most recently The Cachoeira Tales, and Other Poems (Louisiana State University Press, 2005) and The Fields of Praise: New and Selected Poems (1997), which was a finalist for the National Book Award and the PEN Winship Award. Her honors include a Guggenheim Fellowship, two Pushcart Prizes, two creative writing fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, a Fulbright Teaching Fellowship, and the 1990 Connecticut Arts Award. From 2001 to 2006, she served as the Poet Laureate of Connecticut. Since 1978 she has taught at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, where she is a professor of English.
