Baseball, Softball Fields to Debut
Posted 3/28/2006
Help inaugurate the University’s new baseball field on Wednesday, March 29, as baseball returns to campus for the first time in more than 20 years.
The Hartford baseball team will take on the University of Massachusetts at 3 p.m. at the new field, which is located behind the Sports Center. The game marks a significant milestone – the first baseball game played on campus since 1985, when the University last had a baseball field.
An informal “soft opening” ceremony will take place before Wednesday’s game, at about 2:50 p.m. A formal dedication ceremony will take place next fall, after the bleachers, landscaping, and other aspects of the project have been completed.
Meanwhile, the University’s new softball field will make its debut on Saturday, April 1, at 1 p.m., when the Hartford Hawks play a double header against the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
The baseball and softball fields are part of the University’s Home Field Advantage campaign. The first phase of the campaign also included the recent renovation of Al-Marzook Field, which is used for soccer and lacrosse. The next phase will include the construction of an eight-lane track surrounding an all-purpose field.
