A Busy Year for President Emeritus Humphrey Tonkin
Recent work by President Emeritus Humphrey Tonkin includes two conference papers, “Movement or Culture? The Ideological Basis of Esperanto Poetry” (World Esperanto Congress, Hanoi, July 2012) and “Invented Cities, Invented Languages: Esperanto and Urban Textuality, 1887-1914” (Sociolinguistics Symposium 19, Berlin, August 2012).
In addition, Tonkin's recent work includes an entry, “Esperanto Poetry,” in the New Princeton Encyclopedia of Poetry and Poetics (Princeton University Press, 2012); an edited volume of essays on Esperanto literature, On People and Works (Rotterdam: UEA, 2012; with Michela Lipari); and publication of the Italian translation of his edition of Tivadar Soros’s Masquerade (Udine: Gaspari, 2012).
For the launch of the Italian translation, Tonkin's essay on the work of Tivadar Soros (2011) was republished in Florence, Italy (2012). He continues to edit the scholarly journal Language Problems and Language Planning (Amsterdam: John Benjamins).
