Psychology Colloquium: 'Texting Your Life Away'
The Department of Psychology invites you to join us on Friday, Oct. 26, for the next presentation in our fall semester colloquium series.
The presentation, titled "Texting Your Life Away: Is Electronic Distraction Making Us Distractible?", will be presented by Laura Levine, professor of psychology at Central Connecticut State University.
The program, which is free and open to all, will take place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in East Hall 104.
The ubiquitous use of popular new technologies has become a distraction in academic and work settings, driving and walking, and even in childcare. The question that arises is whether all of this distraction leads to a cognitive style marked by increased distractibility in those who use these devices. In this presentation, surprising research findings on the effects of media distraction will be presented as well as evidence concerning the relationship between media use, distractibility and impulsivity.
