The deadline for applying to take part in the Alternative Spring Break trip to Biloxi, Mississippi, has been extended to Wednesday, Nov. 7, due to the disruption caused by Hurricane Sandy.

The Alternative Spring Break (ASB) trip will take place from March 22-30, 2013, and will integrate service, education, and reflection. The ASB trip will focus primarily on cleanup from Hurricane Isaac and long-term Gulf Coast eco-system restoration in Biloxi, Miss. Environmental projects are designed to build an understanding of coastal ecosystems and watersheds and how they are affected by manmade and natural disasters.

Volunteers will complete projects such as shoreline restoration, native plant propagation, sea grass restoration, wildlife habitat improvement, dune restoration, storm water treatment, public land restoration and invasive species removal.

The expected cost of the trip is $200, which includes transportation, lodging, and most of the meals.

Interested students should apply online. Applications must be submitted by noon on Wednesday, Nov. 7.
