Sekou on New England Cable News, Balco in CT Mirror, Harrison in Inside Higher Ed, and More

Bilal Sekou, associate professor of political science in Hillyer College, was interviewed on Monday, Oct. 22, for a story on the New England Cable News network about Republican candidate Linda McMahon campaigning with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie at the same that she is running an ad urging the state’s Democratic voters to support her and President Obama. Here’s the story.

Cat Balco, an assistant professor of painting in the Hartford Art School, was quoted in a CT Mirror story about the requirements being placed on recipients in the State of Connecticut’s new grants program for arts projects. Here’s the article, which was posted on Friday, Oct. 26.

University President Walter Harrison, who is chair of the NCAA’s Division I Committee on Academic Performance, was quoted in a number of publications about an NCAA report that showed that graduation rates are up overall for men’s basketball and football programs, although the University of Connecticut’s graduation rate for its men’s basketball program was 11 percent. The report, issued on Thursday, Oct. 25, was highlighted by the Associated Press, by Inside Higher Ed.com, by CBS Sports.com, and by the Hartford Courant.

The Hartford Courant's “Behind the Curtain” blog previewed The Hartt School’s production of "Miss Saigon" on Tuesday, Oct. 23. The posting noted that Kevin Gray, associate professor in Hartt’s theatre division, who was staging this performance, had played the lead role in the Los Angeles and Toronto productions of the show. Tony Connaway, a 1998 graduate of The Hartt School, was recently honored as Glastonbury’s Teacher of the Year. Connaway, who is the string teacher at the Nayaug and Buttonball elementary schools, was profiled as the cover story in the November issue of Glastonbury Life. The Hartford Courant noted the University’s preparations for Hurricane Sandy in a round-up story on Monday, Oct. 29, that included comments from Meagan Fazio, assistant director of electronic and social media in the University’s Office of Marketing and Communication.
