Mehm Honored by Connecticut Psychological Association
At the annual convention of the Connecticut Psychological Association on Nov. 2, John Mehm was awarded the 2012 Catherine Acuff Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Profession of Psychology.
The director of the Graduate Institute of Professional Psychology (GIPP) in the A&S Department of Psychology, Mehm served as president of the Connecticut Psychological Association from 2007 to 2010. In the presentation of the award, Mehm was credited for providing leadership through a reorganization of the central office of the state psychological association during his two terms as president.
The award is named in memory of the late Catherine Acuff, a former University of Hartford faculty member in GIPP. Acuff was widely regarded for her leadership role in the state association, and she was a leading candidate for election as president-elect of the American Psychological Association at the time of her unexpected death in 2000. In accepting the award, Mehm recalled the efforts of his former colleague in advocating for the profession of psychology on the state and national levels.
