Professor Richard Freund, director of the Greenberg Center for Judaic Studies, recently traveled to China for research on the Jews of China.
On his way to China, he spoke at the American Jewish University in Los Angeles, Calif., on Oct. 14 about the Greenberg Center's ongoing project at the Sobibor extermination camp in Poland. Freund spoke at an event commemorating the 69th anniversary of the Sobibor Rebellion (subject of the 1986 Hollywood film, Escape from Sobibor) in the presence of survivors of the Rebellion and invited guests.
In China, Freund spoke to the Beijing Jewish community on Oct. 16 on his book, Digging through the Bible. On Oct. 25, he spoke at Shanghai Normal University, the sister university of the University of Hartford, for history students of SHNU and Shanghai University on his new book, Digging through History: From Atlantis to the Holocaust. The lecture focused on the Greenberg Center's excavations in southern Spain and Freund's involvement in the National Geographic special, Finding Atlantis.
