Coleman on Fox CT, Robinson in Wall Street Journal, Meiser on WTIC Radio, Matacin on WFSB-TV, and More

Susan Coleman, professor of finance in the Barney School of Business, was a guest on the FOX CT Morning News show on Monday, Oct. 5. Coleman was invited on the show to talk about women’s economic issues in advance of the Nov. 6 election and in advance of her talk on Wednesday, Nov. 14 about her new book, Rising Tide, which explores financial strategies for women-owned small businesses. Here is the interview.

Michael Robinson, associate professor of history in Hillyer College, was cited in a Wall Street Journal story that reviewed the new book, Walking the Amazon by Ed Stafford. “As the historian of exploration Michael Robinson has noted in books and on his blog, there are few if any truly unexplored places left in the world, and national pride and economic gain are no longer fashionable motives for exploring.”

The Hartford Hawks women’s basketball team’s pre-season dinner on Friday, Nov. 2, turned into a surprise tribute to University Director of Athletics Pat Meiser and her role as a trailblazing pioneer for Title IX. Meiser’s efforts on behalf of equality in women’s collegiate athletics were noted on WTIC Radio in Scott Gray’s Comment from the Sports World on Monday, Nov. 5, and in Hartford Courant columnist Lori Riley’s column on Sunday, Nov. 4.

As the Hartford Hawks women’s basketball team prepares for its season-opening game at home on Friday night, Nov. 9, head coach Jen Rizzotti is doing a number of interviews. On Thursday, Nov. 8, she will be live on WDRC Radio (1360 AM) at 9:35 a.m. and then a taped interview on WTIC Radio at 6:35 p.m. The Hartford Courant will have a season-preview article on Friday, Nov. 9, and Coach Rizzotti will be taping a show for CPTV Sports, titled “Beyond the Beat,” that will be broadcast on Tuesday night, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m.

The Hartford Hawks men’s basketball team, which opens its season at home on Saturday, Nov. 10, against Quinnipiac as the opening game in the “Connecticut Six” event, was previewed in the Hartford Courant on Wednesday, Nov. 7. This article was top lead story in the “Sports” section.

Mala Matacin, founder and faculty sponsor of Women for Change and co-chair and associate professor of psychology and gender studies in the College of Arts and Sciences, was a guest on the Better Connecticut show on WFSB-TV on Monday, Nov. 5. Matacin was talking about the CT Girlcott initiative to raise awareness of body image, bullying, and other issues facing women.

Maureen O’Flynn and Claude Corbeil, an adjunct faculty member and a vocal coach, respectively, in The Hartt School’s Vocal Studies Division, were the subjects of a cover story in October issue of The Artful Mind artzine.
