Two Paralympic Athletes to Share Their Inspiring Stories
Two paralympic athletes will share their inspirational stories on Thursday, Nov. 15, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. in Konover Campus Center. Their talk and presentation is free and open to all.
The two elite athletes – both of whom competed in the 2012 Paralympics in London this past summer – are Katie Holloway, a sitting volleyball medalist, and Steve Serio, a wheelchair basketball medalist.
Holloway has been using a prosthetic leg since she was two years old. Serio had surgery as a baby to remove a spinal tumor, which resulted in the compression of his spinal cord and left him partially paralyzed.

Thursday's event is sponsored by The Hartford, which is a founding partner of U.S. Paralympics, a division of the U.S. Olympic Committee. The key focus of U.S. Paralympics is to find and develop world-class athletes with physical and visual disabilities.
The Center for Health, Care, and Well-being in the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions is a co-sponsor of Thursday's event.
