Professor John Bryant of Hofstra to Give Talk on Nathaniel Hawthorne

Professor John Bryant of Hofstra University will be on campus on Thursday, Nov. 15, to give a talk about Nathaniel Hawthorne and the work of writing the literary biography. The lecture is the final event of the Fall 2012 Cardin Reading Series.

The talk will take place at 12:15 p.m. in Mali II auditorium (Dana 202). It is free and open to the public. Bryant will take questions following his discussion.

Bryant is a leading authority on 19th-century American literature and culture, in particular the works of Herman Melville, but also, transcendentalism, Emerson, Poe, and antebellum African American writing. He has published several books, including Melville and Repose, The Fluid Text, Melville Unfolding, and the Longman Critical Edition of Moby-Dick. He is also the editor of Leviathan: A Journal of Melville Studies and of the Melville Electronic Library.
