Jackie McLean Fellow to Lecture on 'Muslim Women and the Politics of Action in Nigeria'

Adryan Wallace, the 2013 Jackie McLean Fellow at the University of Hartford, will give a lecture, “Visible Behind the Veil: Muslim Women and the Politics of Action in Nigeria,” on Thursday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in Wilde Auditorium.

Wallace will discuss her recent research on how Muslim women living under Sharia in Kano, Nigeria, have been actively mobilizing to address gender and economic inequality.  In the lecture, Wallace will use case studies from several organizational programs to illustrate the unique ways Nigerian women interpret Islam to advance their own economic and political goals.
