Educational Technology Grants Awarded

The Office of the Provost is pleased to announce that the following faculty members have been awarded grants to assist in learning educational technology and incorporating it into the curriculum to enhance teaching.

Vanessa Bond
Assistant Professor of Music Education
The Hartt School

Will purchase and assess the use of iPads in her music education classes, in order to promote Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge in music education students and hence in future educators.

Jeffrey Cohen, Associate Professor
and Ke Yang, Assistant Professor (co-awardees)
Department of Economics, Finance, and Insurance
Barney School of Business

Will purchase and assess the use of iPads in an economics class as a vehicle for facilitating instructor mobility and student collaboration.

Hiro Fukawa
Associate Professor of Sculpture
Hartford Art School

Will purchase, learn, and teach two software packages designed to optimize use of the new Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine recently purchased by the Hartford Art School. The CNC allows the production of three dimensional models.

Eugene Kim
Associate Professor of Management and Marketing
Barney School of Business

Will explore and assess the use of the new Microsoft tablet, Surface, in teaching Management Information Systems.

Brian Swartz
Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering
College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture

Will be trained in the use of several software packages that he in turn plans to use in order to promote visualization skills in civil engineering courses.

Bin Zhu
Assistant Professor of Biology
College of Arts and Sciences

Will conduct an assessment of iPads as a vehicle for taking, transcribing, and sharing field notes in a biology class.
