C-SPAN3 cable channel’s American History TV “Lectures in History” series will rebroadcast its program on Professor Warren Goldstein’s 2011 fall semester freshman seminar class titled “Beyond the Dreamer: The Life and Work of Martin Luther King Jr.,” on Monday, Jan. 21 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day), at 6 p.m. ET and again on Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 6 a.m. ET.

The class taught by Professor Goldstein, who is chair of the history department in the College of Arts and Sciences, featured a lengthy discussion of the context surrounding King’s protest efforts in Birmingham, Ala., and the overall status of the civil rights movement in 1963. It also included an analysis of the civil rights leader’s famous Letter from Birmingham City Jail and a series of photographs of Birmingham, juxtaposing images from 1963 and 2010, where there are now public memorials to the civil rights activist.
