Two Alumni to be Inducted Into Barney Hall of Fame
The Barney School of Business will welcome two new members into its Alumni Hall of Fame during an induction ceremony in the 1877 Club on Wednesday, Jan. 30.
Scott Orenstein (BSBA 1983, MBA 1984), fashion retail industry consultant and former president of G.H. Bass & Co., and Lee Ann C. Leahy (BSBA 1984), partner in the Boston office of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, were selected from among more than 18,000 Barney alumni. They were chosen for achievements that reflect Barney’s mission to “prepare leaders and decision-makers who are globally aware and socially responsible.”
Leahy will be the first woman inducted into the Barney Alumni Hall of Fame.
The induction ceremony will take place on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the 1877 Club. A reception will follow. The ceremony and reception are free and open to the public, but advance registration is requested. To register, and for additional information, go to www.hartford.edu/bhof.
Barney School Dean James Fairfield-Sonn will present Orenstein and Leahy with commemorative plaques. Framed photographs of the two inductees will hang alongside photos of the other eight members of the Hall of Fame in one of Barney’s executive classrooms.
Orenstein, a respected consultant in the fashion retail industry, is former president of G.H. Bass & Co. Between 2000 and 2012, he provided brand vision and direction for this iconic brand of PVH Corporation. Orenstein re-launched the original Weejun brand, established quality control improvements, and launched the new inspired lifestyle look of Bass Earth. Prior to Bass, he served as senior vice president and general merchandise manager for Geoffrey Beene, and as a vice president and division merchandise manager for Lord and Taylor. In 2010, Orenstein was honored with the Madison Square Boys and Girls Club Hope and Opportunity Award for outstanding service, support, and dedication to the Navy Yard Clubhouse. He is a yearly speaker at the National Students Leadership Association and serves on multiple boards, including the Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America. Orenstein received his bachelor's and MBA degrees from Barney in 1983 and 1984, respectively.
Leahy, a partner in the Boston office of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP with over 28 years of diversified audit and consulting experience, serves higher education and healthcare clients throughout the Northeast. She also frequently speaks to audiences on internal controls, audit committee effectiveness, and other governance issues, and their impact on higher education and healthcare institutions. Leahy is a Certified Public Accountant licensed to practice in Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York, Maine, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. She earned a BSBA from Barney in 1984. Later a member of the Barney School Board of Visitors for several years, and a frequent speaker in various accounting department classes and events, Leahy was the inaugural speaker last spring for the Corine T. Norgaard Women in Leadership Lecture Series. She serves as the vice chair of the board of directors of the Animal Rescue League of Boston, and also chairs its Finance and Audit Committee.
