Come to the 'Super Bowl of Archaeology' on Sunday

Oftentimes, who wins the Super Bowl is determined by a previously little-known player who steps into the spotlight. On Sunday, Feb. 3, before the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers take the field in Super Bowl XLVII, the University of Hartford’s Greenberg Center for Judaic Studies will host a program that will highlight some previously little-known MVPs of the Bible.

Greenberg Center director and renowned archaeologist Richard Freund will talk about this during a premiere showing of the new National Geographic special, Lost Faces of the Bible, which Freund worked on for the past two years. This  new series by National Geographic features some of the most cutting-edge biblical archaeology, as scientists use “CSI-like” forensics to reconstruct the lives of people during biblical times.

The showing of the documentary will be interspersed with short quizzes and giveaways, and will be followed by a short presentation on Freund’s new book, Digging through History: Archaeology and Religion from Atlantis to the Holocaust (Rowman & Littlefield, 2012). The book features the most up-to-date information on University of Hartford archaeological projects in Israel, Spain, and Poland.

Sunday's program will take place from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the 1877 Club.
