65 Hawks Honored for Academic Excellence

The America East conference has announced that 632 of its fall student-athletes, including 65 from the University of Hartford, were named to the fall honor roll. Of the Hawks 65 honorees, 34 received the highest distinction of Commissioner’s Honor Roll for achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Of the five Hartford teams eligible for the fall academic honor roll, the women’s soccer team led the way with 18 student-athletes honored, nine of whom were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll. The men’s soccer team led on the male side with 16 student-athletes named to the honor roll. The men’s cross country team posted the highest percentage of commissioner’s honors with all but one of its eight members earning the highest distinction.

Rounding out the remaining teams were the volleyball team with 13 on the honor roll, five on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll, and women’s cross country, with 10 student-athletes on the honor roll, five on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Following the fall season, the Hawks also had six student-athletes named to their respective sports’ All-Academic Team. Caitlin Alves, Amélia Pereira, and Christiana Lang received the honor from women’s soccer, while James Stamopoulos received the honor for men’s soccer. Rounding out the All-Academic Team honors was Kami Nethersole from the volleyball team and Andrew Chalmers from the men’s cross country team.

The fall honor roll success follows a record semester in the classroom for the Hawks 367 student-athletes, who combined for a 3.18 cumulative grade point average. In addition to the record GPA, 67 percent of the student-athletes finished with a 3.0 or higher, while 130 of those student-athletes earned a 3.5 or higher. Finally, 17 Hawks, also a record number, posted a 4.0 grade point average during the fall semester.
