Celebrate International Week, Feb. 25–March 2
Celebrate the cultures of the world during the University of Hartford’s Fourth Annual International Week, Feb. 25–March 2!
Join the many events throughout the week sponsored by the International Center in collaboration with Aramark, Career Services, Hillyer College, the Barney School of Business and the English Language Institute.
Take a five-minute language lesson at Language Learn. Apply for your U.S. Passport on campus! Learn how to belly dance or show us your moves during a salsa lesson. Wake-up with Study Abroad or come to a Global Seminar or Workshop. Try out different international recipes as you get a Taste of the World. Finish off the week of celebration by joining us for our 28th annual International Festival, featuring great food and music!
Pick up your “International Passport” from the International Center, GSU 327, and collect a stamp from each event you attend during International Week. If you go to four events, bring your “Passport” to the International Festival and receive FREE ADMISSION.
Monday, Feb. 25

Climbing the Mountains of the Moon, KF Seminar Room, Mortensen Library, 1:30-2:30 p.m. - Join Hillyer Professor Michael Robinson as he takes us on a voyage to Uganda, where he recently gathered research for his upcoming book Lost White Tribe: Explorers, Scientists, and a Theory of Race that Changed Africa. Robinson will discuss his journey to the heart of the Rwenzori Mountains where he climbed Mt. Stanley with a Bakonzo guide and porters, recording what he could of the mountain, its people, and its legends.

Faculty Workshop: Developing a Short-term Study Abroad Program, KF Seminar Room, Mortensen Library, 12:30-1:30 p.m. – This workshop is designed for faculty who are interested in leading a short-term study abroad program during Winterterm, Spring Break or Summerterm. Lunch will be provided and pre-registration is required. RSVP to Sarah Reuter at reuter@hartford.edu by Feb. 20.
Business is Global – Are You Global-Savvy?, A420, 12:30-1:30 p.m. – In this program we’ll develop your global savvy by looking at the ways in which cultural differences may affect people’s ways of doing business, whether it’s in adapting fast food to local tastes in India, making a business presentation in Germany, working as an effective team with a sales force in Mexico, or reporting to a French boss. Led by Robert Day, an adjunct instructor in management and marketing and partner in BeGlobal LLC, an international business knowledge firm.
Belly Dance Lesson, Konover Great Room, 5:45–6:45 p.m. – Don’t miss your chance to try out your belly dancing skills. Shalimar, a professional belly dancer, will lead you in a lesson of this traditional Middle Eastern dance. Open to everyone!

Wake Up with Study Abroad! – 9-11:30 a.m., Regents Commons, Shaw Center (Hillyer) – Come learn about all the opportunities available to you! Choose from dozens of countries around the world. Earn UHA credit, fulfill degree requirements and keep your financial aid. Stop by to talk with a Study Abroad advisor. Free breakfast items will be available (while supplies last). Enter to win our drawing!

Language Learn, GSU, Suisman Lounge, 11:30–1 p.m. – Let’s celebrate the languages of the world and the languages on our campus! Join our international students who want to teach you how to say phrases and words in their native languages. You can also see how your name looks in Arabic and Chinese calligraphy. Learn about UHA’s involvement with the NGO, Pencils for Promise, which believes every child should have access to quality education.
Passport Day, GSU, Suisman Lounge, 11:30–1 p.m. – Have you been meaning to apply for your passport, but can’t seem to find the time? Well now is your chance! The U.S. Post Office will be on campus to process U.S. Passports and mail out applications. Pick up a Passport Application and Instructions throughout February at the GSU Post Office or the International Center, GSU 327.
Limbo Contest, GSU, Suisman Lounge 12:30 –1 p.m. – Come join the fun during our Limbo Contest! How low can you go? Prize for first place!

Salsa Lesson, Konover Great Room, 2–3 p.m. – Have you always wanted to learn to dance salsa? Or maybe you're an experienced salsa dancer and want to spice up your routine with some new steps? Join us for a Latin Dance lesson, open to everyone!
Saturday, March 2
International Festival, GSU north/south cafeteria 5–9 p.m. – Join us for the International Center's biggest event of the year! Celebrate an evening of cultural diversity with performances by “Inca Son,” “LaUra and Belly Trance,” and “Berkshire Samba.” Sample delicious food from around the world. The price is right at $5 for students and $12 for non-students. Free entry for students with four stamps on their “International Passport!”
