Pines and Robinson Both on WNPR Radio, Morley-Coury on WTNH-TV, Baker in NY Daily News, and More
David Pines, associate professor and chair of civil, environmental, and biomedical engineering in the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture, was one of three guests on WNPR Radio’s “Where We Live” show on Wednesday, Feb. 20. All three were talking about aid projects in Africa, and Pines spoke about the University’s agricultural and microbusiness development projects in Kenya. Click here to listen to the show.
Michael Robinson, an associate professor of history in Hillyer College, was a guest on WNPR Radio’s “Where We Live” show on Monday morning, Feb. 25, in advance of his talk that afternoon at the University. Robinson’s talk was on his recent trip to Uganda, where he conducted research for his next book, Lost White Tribe: Explorers, Scientists, and a Theory of Race That Changed Africa, which is scheduled for publication by Oxford University Press in 2015. The University High School of Science and Engineering (UHSSE) was one of 10 Hartford public schools to be recently honored with a Magnet School of Merit Award by Magnet Schools of America, according to a story in the Hartford Courant. The award puts UHSSE in the running for the prestigious Simpson Distinguished Merit Award, which is given annually to one magnet school in America that most exemplifies a commitment to diversity, high academic standards and curriculum innovation. Last year Magnet Schools of America recognized UHSSE as the top magnet high school in the country. Read the story here.
Alexandra Morley-Coury, assistant athletics director for academic services in the University’s Department of Athletics, was a guest on the WTNH-TV News Channel 8 morning news show on Friday, Feb. 15. During her interview, she highlighted all of the activities the Athletics Department was offering to girls in the area as part of the Department’s “Girls and Women in Sports” Day celebration on Sunday, Feb. 17.
