Free Self-Defense Seminar for Female Students
Carly Cole, an elementary/special education major who is a second-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and a member of the University’s Women for Change organization, will be presenting the “Just Yell Fire Campus Life” seminar for the first time on the University of Hartford campus.
This free self-defense seminar will take place on Friday, March 15, from 2 to 4 p.m. in Hawk Hall 106.
“Just Yell Fire” is a national, non-profit organization aimed at empowering young women to protect themselves against predators. The organization was founded by two young women, Dallas Jessup and Katherine Wehage, in order to teach self-defense techniques to girls between the ages of 9 and 19 years of age.
The “Just Yell Fire Campus Life” program was developed in 2012, by Jessup, to combat rape and abduction in the college setting. “It is a 1.5 million girl revolution across 64 countries.”
The seminar will include a video and demonstration. As a school that is “Committed to Community,” let’s be committed to informing young women about the dangers they may face, and teaching techniques to aide in self defense.
If you know of any female college student in the Hartford community who might be interested in learning simple but effective self-defense techniques, please invite them to the “Just Yell Fire Campus Life” seminar on March 15. It’s time that we learn how to fight back.
