Track and Field Qualifies Five
The University of Hartford men's and women's track and field teams combined for five NEICAAA-qualifying marks this past weekend at the Yale Springtime Invitational.
The Hawk men notched four out of the five New England qualifying times Sunday. Junior Ansumana Diggs started things off with a sixth-place mark in the 100-meter dash with a qualifying time of 11.10 seconds. He posted another top-ten finish in the 200-meter dash, finishing ninth with a time of 22.97 seconds.
Diggs also ran a leg on the 4x100 relay that qualified for the New England Championships. Diggs teamed with Jared Casey, Gario Graham, and Mike Iosebashvili for a second-place time of 43.46 seconds.
In the 400-meter dash, freshman Eric Tahtamoni posted a qualifying time of 49.43 seconds, finishing fourth.
The final qualification for the Hartford men came from junior Erik Quitzau, who took home fifth place in the 110-meter hurdles, stopping the clock at 15.64 seconds.
Rashawn Providence and Robert Pepper went one-two in the triple jump with marks of 13.23 meters and 12.85 meters, respectively. On the track, freshman Michael MacLean took fourth place in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:00.68 while senior Chris Rodriguez posted and eighth-place time of 1:56.94.
On the women's side, freshman Opeyemi Osuntuyi notched the NEICAAA-qualifying time. The freshman finished eighth in the 100-meter hurdles, breaking the tape in 15.59 seconds.
In the 1,500-meter run, sophomore Sam Crisafulli finished seventh with a time of 4:54.16, just ahead of freshman teammate Aleixa Diaz, who took ninth place with a time of 4:55.36.
A pair of freshman jumpers posted season-best marks in the field Sunday. Margaret Fuller cleared a height of 1.51 meters in the high jump, finishing sixth in the event, while Alicia Tripoli notched a seventh-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 10.03 meters.
