Members of the University of Hartford women’s basketball team were honored Friday at the State Capitol, where they met with Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell and were introduced to the General Assembly.

The Hawks were recognized for winning their second consecutive America East Championship in March, and for their first-ever win at the NCAA tournament, where they beat nationally ranked Temple in the first round.

Head Coach Jennifer Rizzotti and her coaching staff and players met with Rell in the governor’s office. Later, the team was introduced in the ornate House of Representatives by State Reps. Demetrios Giannaros, D-Farmington (a professor of economics at the Barney School), and Andrew Fleischmann, D-West Hartford. The team was introduced in the Senate by State Sens. Jonathan Harris, D-West Hartford, and Thomas Herlihy, R-Simsbury.
