Instance of Illumination: Exhibition by Senior Photography Students to Open Saturday
The Photography Department of the Hartford Art School is pleased to announce the opening of Instance of Illumination, the group exhibition presented as the BFA Senior Thesis show, showcasing the work of 14 photographers and lens-based artists in the Class of 2013.
The exhibition will open with a reception on Saturday, May 4, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Joseloff Gallery. It will be on display at the Joseloff gallery through Wednesday, May 8.
Students explore a variety of processes, techniques and materials in tandem with themes, genres and subjects. Some will present camera-less images, working in alternative mediums from the 19th century, such as the cyanotype, as well as fine examples in archival museum quality print in black and white as well as color analog; both “wet” processes. Pictures made with digital imaging technologies in the 21st century find a relatively new emergence along with their counterparts from previous centuries.
The title Instance of Illumination references the book Beauty of Another Order (Yale University Press).
