Bryan Sinche, associate professor of English in the College of Arts and Sciences, published an article in the most recent issue of African American Review, the leading journal for scholarship on African American literature. Entitled "William Wells Brown's Economy of Entertainment," the article argues that 19th-century writer William Wells Brown used entertainment and performance to undermine racial categorizations.

The article on Brown is part of Sinche's new research project, a monograph tentatively titled Shining Like New Money: African American Literature in the Marketplace. During the 2013-14 school year, Sinche will continue his work on this project at Harvard University, where he will be a fellow at the W. E. B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research.
