Howie the Hawk will "take flight" on Friday to raise money for Special Olympics.

On Friday, May 10, University of Hartford athletics mascot Howie the Hawk will be going “Over the Edge” in support of Special Olympics.

Howie and other Special Olympics VIPs will ascend to the top of State House Square in downtown Hartford, and rappel down the building. Howie is scheduled to rappel at 12:30 p.m., and the University community is invited to come out and watch!

The next day, Saturday May 11, the University of Hartford and Hartford Public High School will host the 2013 Special Olympics Connecticut Eastern Regional Games.

Here is a letter from Howie . . .

Dear Hartford Family,

I want to let you know two things about my upcoming appearance (May 10) in downtown Hartford as I go Over the Edge in support of Special Olympics. The first is that my fly time has been scheduled for 12:30 p.m. I hope you will come to State House Square and support me as I rappell (I mean fly) down one of the tallest buildings in Hartford.

The second thing I want you to know is that we have exceeded our fundraising goal thanks to many of you. You did a wonderful job in representing Hartford athletics. If you want to know more, or still want to donate, please click here.

See you on the 10th!

Howie the Hawk
