Milanovic Publishes Research Paper at ASME Turbo Expo Conference
Ivana Milanovic, professor of mechanical engineering, CETA, published a research paper at the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Turbo Expo Conference this month in San Antonio, Texas. Turbo Expo is the premier event for turbomachinery professionals, bringing together experts from around the world to share the latest in turbine technology, research and development and applications.
The research paper, "Large-Eddy Simulation for Turbine Heat Transfer," was co-authored with Dr. Gorazd Medic, Dr. Jongwook Joo and Dr. Om Sharma of United Technologies Research Center. Flow and heat transfer in a high-pressure turbine configuration have been analyzed. Several challenging aspects relevant to flow in the rotor were also considered – the three-dimensionality of pressure side flow separation at negative incidence, the impact of upstream stator wakes, as well as the role of surface roughness. Results for the rotor at large negative incidence indicate that an accurate prediction of pressure side separation is necessary to correctly predict significant increase in heat transfer.
