Hartt Community Division Offers Programs Throughout the Summer

Did you know that the Hartt Community Division offers music and dance programs throughout the summer? There are a variety of options for almost every age and interest.

First Steps in Music runs a one-month session in July where children, ages 0-5, are introduced to music through singing, playing, and moving to sounds with their parents and classmates. Classes meet on July 6, July 13, July 20, and July 27. Click here for more information.

Hartt presents a new summer program for 2013: Piano Group Classes for Beginners in grades 2-8. Want to explore what playing the piano is all about? Hartt Piano Group Classes provide a fun and creative way for beginners to do just that! As a group, students will find their way around the keyboard; learn good habits of basic piano technique; learn note-reading and age-appropriate music theory; explore a variety of solo repertoire; experience the fun of playing in a piano ensemble; and play age-appropriate games to foster creativity, expression, and understanding of musical skills. Our Summer Dance Programs are also available for a wide range of students, offering continued studied in classes modeled after our core programs that run during the school year. Try Summer Music Lessons! Summer can be the perfect time to try a new musical experience or focus on building on technique and skills on an instrument you currently play. The Hartt School Community Division offers private music instruction from highly qualified faculty who specialize on their individual instrument. Our instructors nurture their students in order to help them achieve their individual potential. Our faculty members demonstrate excellence in their own performance ability and are graduates of conservatories and schools of music from across the country and abroad. Latin Meets Jazz is new lively weeklong program for dedicated young musicians interested in finding their own unique sound through Latin Jazz music. As a Latin Meets Jazz participant, students broaden their knowledge of the genre by studying standard rep, the nuts and bolts of jazz theory, and the legendary musicians who were most influential in creating this particular brand of Jazz. This day program runs from July 1 to July 7, 2013. The week culminates in a concert for family and friends on Sunday afternoon. Click here for more information.

Summer Masterclasses for the Developing Musician are one-week intensive programs focused on the Middle and High School strings, wind, brass, and percussion student. These classes are designed to challenge students, encouraging them to reach their potential in a positive and supportive environment. Our highly regarded and experienced faculty guide students through three-hours of small group instruction on solo and ensemble repertoire, technique, and instrument-specific skills. These masterclasses, unique to Connecticut, culminate in a concert for family and friends. They run from August 12th to August 16th, 2013. Click here for more information.

The Summer Vocal Institute: Musical Theater Intensive is a personalized performance program for singers, actors, and dancers who want to improve their vocal, dramatic, and dance skills. In 2013, SVI:MTI will run from July 1 to July 12 with the Final Showcase Performance on Friday, July 12, at 3:00 and 7:30 pm. The Showcase is open to the public. Click here for more information.

The Hartt Suzuki Institute includes classes for both students and teachers. Students experience focused study on their instrument, while teachers will study the repertory, philosophy, and methods introduced by the respected Japanese educator Shinichi Suzuki. All teacher workshop courses are taught by specialists who are registered teacher trainers with the Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA). The David Einfeldt Chamber Music Seminar is an intensive summer music experience offering a dynamic combination of individual lessons, coachings, masterclasses, instrumental ensembles, orchestra, and rehearsals with the quartet in residence and our outstanding string faculty. From Studio to Stage is designed to train serious young dancers, ages 10 and up, with a foundation in solid ballet technique. The program runs from July 1st to July 27th, 2013. From Studio to Stage participants will present a full-length ballet production of Le Corsaire at Millard Auditorium on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at 7:30 PM. Click here for more information.
