Colarulli Named Senior Associate Provost and Dean of Enrollment Management
The following is a message from Provost Sharon L. Vasquez.
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Guy C. “Chuck” Colarulli to the newly created position of Senior Associate Provost and Dean of Enrollment Management, effective July 1, 2013.
Chuck Colarulli became the Associate Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Studies in 1993. Since that time he has had the primary responsibility of improving undergraduate education at the University of Hartford, and supervising the offices of the All-University Curriculum, University Honors programs, Admissions, Financial Aid, Registration and Records, Institutional Research, International Studies, Summerterm, and Winterterm. Chuck has also been overseeing the academic support services of the Center for Reading and Writing, Learning Plus program, and the English Language Institute. As a member of the Council of Deans and Chair of the Committee of Associate and Assistant Deans, he has responsibility for inter-collegiate and inter-divisional coordination and problem solving, as well as the program review process and approval of new programs, areas in which he will continue.
While you may know Chuck through his two decades of service as Associate Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Studies, you may not know as much about the longevity of his record of service at the University of Hartford. He arrived on campus in 1977 as an Assistant Professor of Politics and Government, having served as a Congressional Fellow in the United States Senate. He became Assistant Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences with responsibility for all academic advising, the Office of Academic Services, the college Dialogue Program, and orientation activities. After moving quickly to the position of Associate Dean, Chuck had the primary responsibility for planning, preparing, and administering the college’s budget, determining long-range planning activities, and coordinating a number of college committees and advisory groups. He oversaw both faculty and student development programs, including the John G. Martin Scholarship and a number of study abroad activities.
The current challenges facing higher education demand an increasingly institution-wide focus on all aspects of enrollment management. These external pressures require us to build even closer partnerships among the Provost’s Office, the Office of Student Affairs, and the Office of Marketing and Communication. In order to integrate best practices that inform comprehensive enrollment strategies, operations, and resource allocation, I have reorganized the Provost’s Office and created higher level oversight and a more integrated approach to enrollment management that Chuck Colarulli will oversee. I am confident that he will bring his extensive skills, years of experience, high level of professionalism and integrity to this new role and lead us toward important strides for the long term.
Despite the complex and extensive portfolio of responsibilities that Chuck shoulders, I have always been impressed by his understanding of the wide range of issues and concerns localized in our colleges or schools and his ability to address all with a blend of humor and pragmatism. His level of commitment is extraordinary, as is the effort he makes to assist others.
The coming twelve to eighteen months will require a gradual transition for Chuck (and for all of us) as some of his current responsibilities will be reassigned, allowing his focus to be directed more toward his new position description. I look forward to his continued success as we work to advance the mission and goals of the University of Hartford.
