University to Welcome More Than 1,500 New Students
The University of Hartford will welcome more than 1,500 new students and thousands of returning students to campus beginning Friday, Aug. 30, and continuing through Monday, Sept. 2.

The University’s Class of 2017 comes from more than 35 states, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands, as well as 27 countries. The majority of students are from Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, but 21 members of the Class of 2017 are from California. The foreign countries sending the most first-year students to the University of Hartford are Saudi Arabia, China, Korea, and Kuwait.
Among the members of the Class of 2017 are 35 Hartford Scholars. Founded in 1990, the Hartford Scholars program provides half-tuition scholarships to Hartford residents who are graduates of Hartford public high schools.
The Class of 2017 is evenly split between male and female students. The most popular majors among the incoming class are biology, engineering, architecture, physical therapy, and psychology.
Weekend Schedule
First-year students who did not attend a June Orientation session, along with new transfer students, will move in on the morning of Friday, Aug. 30. Residents of Hawk Hall will move in on Friday afternoon.
All other first-year students will move in on Saturday, Aug. 31, and returning students are scheduled to move in on Monday, Sept. 2. Students in each residence hall have been assigned specific arrival times in order to limit congestion as much as possible. See complete arrival information for new and returning students.
Classes will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
First-year students will have a busy and exciting schedule over the Labor Day weekend, as they participate in Liftoff, the fall orientation program for new students. A convocation for first-year students will take place on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in Lincoln Theater, to be followed by a barbecue on the Harry Jack Gray Center lawn.
