Summer Construction Brings Many Improvements
More welcoming entrances to the residential complexes, a facelift for the Konover Great Room, and renovations to the Fuller Music Center are among a number of construction projects that took place around campus during the summer.
Following are some of the summer's major construction and renovation projects:
A- and B-Complex Courtyards:
The A- and B-Complex courtyards underwent major renovations, including the replacement of underground water mains, as well as new sidewalks and attractive new landscaping. In addition, a new stairway was constructed from B-Complex to the University Commons. The courtyards of the other complexes (the brick residence halls) were renovated in previous years.
Facelifts for A, B, C, and D-Complexes:
The A through D residential complexes now have attractive new front entrances featuring glass doors surrounded by windows. The lobbies of each of the residence halls in the four complexes received new paint, lighting upgrades, floor tile repairs, and other improvements.
Konover Campus Center:
The Konover Great Room also got a major facelift during the summer, including new paint, lighting, flooring, and a new entrance door. In addition, the Konover roof was replaced.
Fuller Music Center (Hartt School):
The Fuller Music Center now has new flooring throughout its main hallways, which improves sound absorption, a new paint scheme designed to coordinate throughout the building but with a distinct palette for each floor, and other aesthetic and functional enhancements that support student, faculty, and staff needs. The work was completed with assistance from the Office of the Provost (new ceilings and lighting), the Facilities Department (new HVAC system), and a donation from a friend of The Hartt School (interior design work). Tatyana Nadgor, a faculty member in the Architecture Department at CETA, provided the new interior design scheme for Fuller’s public spaces. 1877 Club:
The 1877 Club kitchen was modernized with new appliances and other upgrades, and the service elevator was replaced.
Hartford Art School:
Space in Taub Hall was renovated to accommodate the Art History Department, which moved from Hillyer Hall to the art school.
Konover Pond:
The pier leading to the pond next to Konover Campus Center got a facelift over the summer, including paint and new wood trim.
Other construction projects that took place during the summer include the following:
- The roof of Hillyer Hall was replaced.
- Road repairs were performed near B-Lot and the Sports Center.
- The bathrooms on the first and third floors of Hillyer Hall were renovated. Several bathrooms in the east wing of the Harry Jack Gray Center also underwent renovations.
- Annual repairs, painting, carpet cleaning, and other summer touch-ups took place in the residence halls. In addition, furniture was replaced in D-Complex.
