Betsey Smith, associate dean of ENHP, attended the American Occupational Therapy Association’s 86th Annual Conference in Charlotte, N.C., April 26-30, and co-presented two peer-reviewed sessions.
One was a short course titled “Injury Prevention in Industrial Settings: A Model Training Program” with Mary Riley, PT, Quadrant Health Services, Peabody, Mass.; and Daniel Scaringe, DC, FIAMA, CCSP from Owen’s Chiropractic in West Hartford, Conn.
The second was a research poster presentation about “Students’ Perception of Excellence in Teaching in Occupational Therapy Education” with former University of Hartford Occupational Therapy faculty members Jeanine Stancanelli, OTD, OTR/L, assistant professor of OT at the Sage Colleges, Troy, N.Y.; and Randy Fedoruk, MA, OTR/L, adjunct professor at Dominican College.
Eleta Jones, Ph.D., LPC, assistant director of the Career Development Center, was awarded the "Distinguished Professional of 2006" Award by the Connecticut Counseling Association (CCA) at its annual conference on May 5, in Rocky Hill.
The award recognizes one local, state or national level CCA member who promotes progress in the counseling field. Jones was honored for her years of work providing career counseling for adults, her publications about career counseling, and her years of teaching career counseling courses at the graduate level.
Ira Braus, associate professor of music history, read a paper at the New England Conference of Music Theorists, held April 22 at The Hartt School. The paper’s title was “Brahms Rewrites Tristan: Metamorphosis and Anamorphosis.” It discussed Brahms’s ambivalence toward Wagner’s famous opera and how he referenced its music in his vocal and piano works.
