Three Hillyer faculty members presented workshops at two NACADA (National Academic Advising Association) conferences, in Atlanta and Cleveland, on March 7 and April 21, respectively. They are Assistant Dean Paula J. Alderette, English Instructor Bette Baumann Williams, and Academic Strategies Specialist Barbara D. Wolfe.

Their presentation, titled “Syllabus and Portfolio for Advising: From Theory to Practice (SPA),” showcases the customized, multi-step approach to advising, designed to enhance the best qualities of advisors and advisees and to forge solid working relationships between them. SPA has been successfully piloted at Hillyer during this past academic year.

Workshop participants included faculty advisors, professional academic advisors, and administrators from southern, mid-Atlantic and Midwestern institutions of higher education.
