Women’s Basketball to Host WNIT Game
Posted 6/30/2006
The University of Hartford women's basketball team has been invited to play in the preseason Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT), a first in the program’s history. The Hawks will host Dartmouth College in the opening round of the preseason tournament this fall. The game is tentatively scheduled for Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at 7 p.m. at the Chase Arena in the Reich Family Pavilion.
Head coach Jennifer Rizzotti and her Hartford Hawks women's basketball team are coming off of the most successful season in school history, having won the program's first ever NCAA Tournament game against 19th-ranked Temple University. The Hawks finished the season with a 27-4 record after winning their second consecutive America East Championship.
Hartford returns all but four members of last year's squad and will see the addition of four new faces on the court. Returning to the team will be Danielle Hood and Erica Beverly, two of the top-three scorers on the team.
Joining the Hawks will be Lisa Etienne, who had to sit out the 2005-06 season due to the NCAA rule regarding transfers. Three incoming freshmen will fight for playing time, Jenna Peterson (Oakley, Idaho), Kacey Pratt (Rochester, N.Y.) and Diana Delva (Stamford, Conn.)
