Accolades: Barbara Crane, Ellen Wetherbee
Posted 7/24/2006
Barbara Crane, assistant professor, and Ellen Wetherbee, assistant professor and academic coordinator of clinical education in the Department of Physical Therapy, ENHP, are the authors of two chapters in the new textbook, Orthotics and Prosthetics in Rehabilitation, edited by Michelle M. Lusardi and Caroline C. Nielsen.
Wetherbee co-authored Chapter 13, “Orthotic Options for Knee Instability and Pain,” contributing case models of candidates with different knee pathologies who could potentially benefit from knee bracing. Decisions about whether or not to brace the patients presented in these cases were made based on evidence presented in the scientific literature.
Crane authored Chapter 19, “Adaptive Seating in the Management of Neuromuscular and Musculoskeletal Impairment.” This chapter describes the process of evaluating patients for wheelchairs and adaptive seating devices and discusses current technologies in the area.
The textbook will be used in physical therapy programs throughout the country.
