Barney Wins Grant for Visiting Executive -- Again
Posted 3/2/2005
Through the efforts of Ann Costello, associate professor of insurance, the Barney School of Business has been awarded a grant from the Spencer Educational Foundations to bring a risk management executive to campus for the sixth year in a row.
This year's visiting executive is Geoffrey T. Smith, senior vice president of risk management at Banknorth Insurance Group, Portland, Maine, who will wrap up a three-day visit to the Barney School today (March 2). Banknorth Insurance Group is the largest insurance brokerage in New England and is part of a $31 billion dollar financial services company.
During his three-day visit to the Barney School, Smith taught classes and met with both students and faculty.
Each year, Barney competes with other universities for grants to bring a risk management executive to campus. The visiting executive program has been praised as a rewarding educational experience and an excellent opportunity to learn corporate risk management.
