Accolades: Steve Schatz
Posted 8/3/2006
Steve Schatz, assistant professor of educational technology, ENHP, published a paper in the leading journal in his field, Performance Improvement Quarterly. The article, “Designing Performance Interventions for the Information Age,” explores a model for designing Dynamic Online Performance Support Systems (DOPSS) using as a case the development of a knowledge management tool for the Navy.
DOPSS are designed to act as a kind of “magic filing cabinet,” allowing members of a group to file, share, and find resources, notes, and other information. DOPSS are part help desk, part knowledge management, and part filing cabinet. Each system is uniquely designed for each group that uses it and often contains specialized functions for each group (including chats, discussion boards, and directory services). Schatz’s TeachersHelpDesk.com is another implementation of a DOPSS that is currently being used by educators throughout the United States as a way to share resources and ideas.
