The University of Hartford volleyball team has been named one of 54 Division I volleyball teams to compile a 3.30 or better grade point average during the 2005-06 academic year. The Hawks’ GPA of 3.41 ranks as the 24th best GPA among volleyball teams nationwide.

The team academic award, which is presented by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and Game Plan, was presented to 287 schools throughout the nation, among all divisions (Division I, II, III, NAIA, two-year institutions, and high schools).

Of the 54 Division I schools, Hartford was the only school in the Northeast and the only America East team honored by the AVCA.

The Hawks open the 2006 season on Aug. 26 at Connecticut before hosting their invitational tournament on Sept. 1 and 2. Under first-year head coach Don Ferguson, Hartford finished the 2005 season with an 8-22 overall record.
