Sundeep R. Muppidi, associate professor of communication, A&S, attended media and communication conferences around the world in July and August.
At the annual conference of the Asian Media Information Center in Penang, Malaysia (July 17-20), Muppidi presented his paper on “Choices, Aspirations and Realities of Public Service Television: A Case Study of Indian Television” and chaired a panel on “Environmental Reporting.” He was also invited to the planning meeting of the World Journalism Education Congress to be held in Singapore in June 2007. In addition, Muppidi’s multi-country study for UNESCO on media pluralism and editorial independence in public service broadcasting was released on CD-ROM at the conference.
At the annual conference of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) in Cairo, Egypt (July 23-28), Muppidi presented his study, “The Status and Relevance of Journalism Education in India: The Effective, The Ineffective and the Needed,” in the Media Education Division.
At the annual conference of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) in San Francisco (Aug. 2-5), Muppidi completed his term as chair of the organization’s International Communication Division. He also graduated from the AEJMC/ASJMC’s Journalism and Mass Communication Leadership Institute for Diversity program.
In addition, Muppidi served as a judge on the AEJMC’s “Great Ideas for Teachers” competition, and was nominated to the editorial board of the organization's Journalism and Communication Monographs journal.
