A Big Basketball Weekend
Posted 3/4/2005
The men's basketball team starts play in the America East tournament tonight (Friday), while on Saturday, the women attempt to break university records.
The 2005 Choice Hotels International America East Men's Basketball Championship gets under way today on the Binghamton University campus in upstate New York. Hartford, the #10 seed, is scheduled to play 7th-seed Stony Brook at approximately 8:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on WDRC radio, 1360 AM.
The winner of the Hartford/Stony Brook game will play Northeastern, the #2 seed, in the men's quarterfinals on Saturday at 6 p.m. The men's semifinals will be played on Sunday, and the championship game will take place on Saturday, March 12, on the home court of the highest remaining seed. Defending champion Vermont is attempting to win its third consecutive America East men's title.

Women Poised to Break Records
The Hartford women, meanwhile, will celebrate Senior Day at their last regular-season game on Saturday. The Hawks will take on Albany at 2 p.m. at the Chase Arena in the Reich Family Pavilion.
With a record of 18-8 overall and 12-5 in America East play, the women have tied the school records for overall wins and conference wins in a season. A victory over Albany on Saturday would break those records and make university history. Saturday's game will be broadcast live on WWUH radio, 91.3 FM.
The Hawks have already clinched the 2nd seed for next week's 2005 Friendship Cottage Cheese America East Women's Basketball Championship, their best regular-season finish ever.
Hartford is hosting the women's tournament for the fourth consecutive year. First-round action gets under way on Wednesday, March 9, at the Chase Arena in the Reich Family Pavilion. The Hartford women will make their first tournament appearance in the quarterfinals on Thursday, March 10, at 6 p.m. The women's semifinals will be played on Friday, March 11, and the championship game will take place on Saturday, March 12, all in the Chase Arena.
Single-session tickets for the women's tournament will be available starting Monday by visiting the Athletics Box Office, calling 860.768.4295, or online at www.hartfordhawks.com or www.tickets.com. All-tournament tickets are available by calling the Hartford Athletics Box Office at 860.768.4295.
