Students: 'Run With the Hawks' For Free!
Posted 10/5/2006
Head Coach Dan Leibovitz and the Hartford men's basketball team invite all members of the University community to "Run with the Hawks for Cystic Fibrosis" on Sunday, Oct. 8.
Students can enter the 5K race (you can run, walk or stroll) for free. Coach Leibovitz will make a donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for every student who comes out to run – so round up your friends and make a difference!
Water will be provided throughout the race, and each participant will receive a free T-shirt.
The race begins at 9:30 a.m. and will start and end at Webster Hill Elementary School in West Hartford. A shuttle bus will pick up and drop off students in front of the Sports Center from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. (every half hour).
To register in advance, or for more information, please contact the University of Hartford Basketball Office at 768.4653.
On-site registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. For non-students, the entry fee is $15 for on-site registration or $12 for advance registration.
All proceeds from the race will benefit the Connecticut Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a life-threatening disease affecting approximately 30,000 people in the United States. For people with the disease, a defective gene causes the body to produce a faulty protein that leads to an abnormally thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and can result in fatal lung infections. In 1955, when the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation was founded, children with CF did not live long enough to attend elementary school. Today, thanks to the Foundation, the median age of survival for people with CF is 36.8 years.
Please come out on Sunday and help the Hawks fight cystic fibrosis.
