Professor of Communication Roger Desmond is co-author of a recently published book chapter.
The chapter, titled “The Effects of Alcohol and Tobacco Advertising on Children and Adolescents: A Meta-Analysis,” was co-authored by Desmond and by Rod Carveth of Marywood University. The chapter is included in Mass Media Effects Research, by Raymond W. Preiss (ed.), Barbara Mae Gayle (ed.), Nancy Burrell (ed.), Mike Allen (ed.) and Jennings Bryant (ed.) Ann Costello, associate professor of insurance, Barney School of Business, and Samantha Cavallaro, a senior insurance/finance major at Barney, were guests of the Spencer Educational Foundation Board at a special dinner sponsored by St. Paul/Travelers.
The Spencer Foundation grants scholarship awards and educational grants to students in the risk management disciplines. Cavallaro is currently a Spencer Scholar. Also attending the dinner was Erica Marques, a former Spencer Scholar and a Barney alumna. The Spencer Educational Foundation Board is composed of risk managers from all over the world. Companies represented were Omni Hotels, XL insurance(Bermuda), Marsh, Aon, AIG, and Walt Disney.
The Spencer Foundation also awards grants to universities to have a risk-manager-in-residence for three days. The University of Hartford has won this award again, and will be hosting the risk manager from Harrah’s in the spring.
