Proposals are currently being accepted for the new Gordon Clark Ramsey Award for Creative Excellence for adjunct and part-time faculty.

The award was created upon Ramsey's retirement last fall, following his 18 years of service as Secretary to the Faculty Senate. Ramsey, who continues to serve the University on a part-time basis as Executive Secretary of the Emeriti Association, has always been a strong advocate of efforts to enhance the status of, and provide opportunities for, adjunct faculty. Ramsey himself has been an adjunct instructor since 1985 in English; history; rhetoric, language, and culture (RLC); and the All-University Curriculum.

The award is open to any adjunct or part-time faculty who has taught at the University of Hartford for at least two semesters, one of which must be fall 2004 or spring 2005.

The award may be for either:
  • a proposed scholarly or creative project related in some way to classroom teaching, OR

  • prior sustained scholarly or creative work related in some way to classroom teaching over several years.
The proposal may be a nomination or be self-generated, and should comprise no more than two single-spaced pages with NO supplemental materials or attachments. In addition, a one-page letter of support from one full-time colleague, either a full-time faculty member or an administrator, must be submitted.

The three-page proposal package must be submitted to the Faculty Senate Office by 4 p.m. on Monday, March 28.

The $250 cash award may be used for travel to conferences, for consultations, or for materials, supplies, or other expenses related to the creative project. A one-page report on how the money was spent should be sent to the Faculty Senate Adjunct and Part-time Committee, c/o the Faculty Senate Office, by January 15, 2006.
