Charles Holmes-Hope, area coordinator for the Residential Colleges and North Campus, recently was appointed chair of the Commission on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Issues for the city of Hartford, a commission he has served on since September 2004. Holmes-Hope was appointed to a four-year term by Mayor Eddie Perez.
The purpose of the Commission on LGBT Issues is to: raise public awareness in the city of Hartford by holding educational and informational activities and meetings; serve as an educational resource within the community; advocate for the elimination of bigotry, discrimination, and prejudice on the basis of sexual orientation; create an environment that fosters diversity to improve each community's diversity climate; hold public hearings for the purpose of gathering information or providing information to the Greater Hartford community; and make recommendations to the Mayor's Office, the Court of Common Council, and other agencies.
