On to the Semifinals!
Posted 3/11/2005
The Hawks eked out a 47-43 win over Northeastern Thursday, and will take on New Hampshire at 8:30 p.m. tonight (Friday) in the semifinals of the 2005 Friendship Cottage Cheese America East Women's Basketball Championship.
Hartford fans are encouraged to come to the Chase Arena in the Reich Family Pavilion and cheer on the Hawks in their quest for the America East title and an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
The winner of tonight's Hartford-New Hampshire match-up will face either Boston University or Vermont in the championship game on Saturday (March 12) at 4 p.m. in the Chase Arena.
In a major upset on Thursday, 8th-seeded Boston beat Maine, the #1 seed and defending champion. That leaves Hartford, the #2 seed, as the highest ranked team remaining in the tournament.
The first of tonight's two semifinal games will begin at 6 p.m., with Boston (#8) facing Vermont (#4). The second semifinal game, between # 2 Hartford and # 3 New Hampshire, is expected to start at approximately 8:30 p.m.
This is the fourth year that the University of Hartford is hosting the America East tournament. The 10-team showdown began on Wednesday evening.
Single session ticket prices start at $6 for youths and $12 for adults. To buy tickets, stop by the Athletics Box Office in the Reich Family Pavilion, call the box office at 860.768.4295, or order tickets online at www.hartfordhawks.com or www.tickets.com.
The Office of Student Affairs has arranged for University of Hartford students to attend the Hartford games for free. Students with University of Hartford IDs can pick up their free tickets at the Athletics Box Office.
Any games in which the Hartford Hawks play will be broadcast live on WWUH radio (91.3 FM or www.wwuh.org). On television, New England Sports Network (NESN) will televise the two semifinal games on tape delay – the first game will air tonight at 11 p.m., and the second game will air Saturday at 1 a.m. NESN will carry the championship game live, on Saturday at 4 p.m.
In addition, you can get live statistics for all the tournament games on the America East website, at www.americaeast.com.
