Posted 10/30/2006
Professor of Philosophy Bernard den Ouden published two op-ed articles in recent weeks. The first, "Finding a Cultural Common Ground: Amid Different Cultures, Politics, Religions, There is Potential for Unity," grew out of conversations with philosophers and poets from Iran, Eygpt, Syria, Lebanon and the Palestinian Territories that he met in Tunisia, at a July 2006 conference called "New Directions in the Humanities."
The second op-ed, titled "Appreciating the Workers Who Touch Our Food: Why Abusive Policies Helped Create a Spinach Crisis," was also first printed in the Shelburne Falls Independent.
ENHP faculty members Ann M. Courtney, Joan Y. Pedro, and Frederick B. King presented at the 30th Annual Reading Association of Ireland (RAI) Conference on Sept. 29 in Dublin, Ireland. Their topic was "Getting it Right: Scaffolding and Supporting Explicit and Mindful Comprehension Strategy Instruction."
Three years of research was culminated in this interactive workshop, which concentrated on both individual and multiple comprehension strategies. The University of Hartford faculty members were able to make connections for further research and possible exchanges with the faculty at St. Patrick’s College in Dublin.
