Woody Doane, professor of sociology at Hillyer College, gave a public lecture, titled “Seeing through the Whiteout: Whiteness and Race Relations in the 21st Century,” at New England College in Henniker, N.H., on Oct. 4. In the lecture, which was presented to an audience of over 100 students and faculty, Doane discussed the nature of white racial identity and how it influences race relations in the United States.

Scott Metcalfe, director of the Music Production and Technology department at The Hartt School, recently produced and engineered a recording of a memorial service for longtime Yale Professor Jaroslav Pelikan, one of the world's leading scholars in the history of Christianity and medieval intellectual history.

The Oct. 10 event featured a solo cello performance by Yo-Yo Ma, and included speeches by Yale President Richard Levin and Librarian of Congress James H. Billington.
