Hartford and Maine will face off for the America East Women’s Soccer Championship Saturday, in what promises to be an exciting weekend of sports on campus.

In addition to the soccer championship, the weekend will feature a women’s basketball exhibition game, and the final home games of the season for the women’s volleyball team.

All of the events are free for students.

Soccer Championship

The top-seeded Hartford women’s soccer team will host third-seeded University of Maine in the America East championship game on Saturday (Nov. 4) at 2 p.m. at Al-Marzook Field (behind the Sports Center).

The winner of that game will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Hawks will be vying for their seventh America East title.

University of Hartford students can attend the game for free by presenting their student ID, compliments of the Office of Student Affairs and the President's Office. For non-students, tickets are $6 for adults and $2 for youth (ages 14 and under).

Come out and support the Hawks as they try to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament!

Basketball Exhibition Game

The public will get its first chance to see Hartford’s 2006-07 women’s basketball team in action at an exhibition game tonight (Friday, Nov. 3) against Team Concept. The game will take place at 7 p.m. in the Chase Arena, Reich Family Pavilion. The game is free to the public.

The Hartford women’s basketball team was the unanimous coaches’ selection earlier this week as the favorite to win the America East Championship for the third straight season. In addition, for the first time ever, the Hawks received votes in the preseason USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ Poll.

The Hawks are the two-time defending America East champions and are fresh off their first-ever win in an NCAA Tournament game, having shocked sixth-seeded Temple in the first round of the tournament in March.

Hartford will achieve another “first” on Friday, Nov. 10, when the Hawks host Dartmouth in their first-ever appearance in the Preseason WNIT Tournament.

Volleyball Team Wraps Up Season

The volleyball team will play its final two home games of the year this weekend. The Hawks will take on New Hampshire tonight (Friday, Nov. 3), at 7 p.m. and Albany on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. Be sure to arrive early for the Saturday game as the Hawks will be honoring their graduating senior, Teri Connolly, before the game.

Both volleyball games will be held in the Intramural Gym of the Reich Family Pavilion, and are free to the public.

Come out and support your Hawks this weekend! For more information on any of the weekend events, please call the Athletics Box Office at 860.768.4295.
